Rearranging the plants

Not the best before and after pics. Covering up the bald spot in the grass created by feeding the wild birds. Trying out a spot of seating. 8 bags of decomposed granite because Natural Gardener no longer has a soil yard. Dang.

Wreath

If you bought one of these before Christmas last year, they set you back about $40. The local HEB had them on clearance after the holiday. I got it for $15. After spending a lot of time at the front door, she was starting to look a little sad. Moved her to this little spot. Lovely!!

Texas Persimmon

This one's a native. Tiny fruit. Edible. Not likely to get any before the birds eat them all - but that's okay.

Persimmons!

Let's start with this cute little persimmon blossom. Who knew they were so beautiful? Not me. This is the first year for this tree to produce. It's taken about 5 or 6 years, I think.

Fig tree

Everyone who passes by wants to know how this fig tree got so big. It IS lovely. And the neighbors admit that they chuckled when Suzy first planted the tiny little thing in the front of the yard. Now they are so impressed!!

Green

The plan was to let the chickens dig out all of the existing vegetation and expose the rocks. It worked. I raked up all the big rocks, evened out the soil a bit and spread rye grass seed and... this is what happened. The final part of the test is to see if the chickens dug out all the worst weeds and if the rye grass will keep them from coming back. The weed I am trying to get rid of is really prolific, for one, and produces super sharp and spiny stickers. Fingers crossed.

Baby

When you buy a pineapple, twist the top off. Let it dry for one week. Stick it in the dirt. It will grow. Eventually, as long as you don't kill it or let it freeze, this is what happens - a baby!!!!
