Nandina Domestica

Otherwise known as Sacred Bamboo. From the family Berberidaceae, it is not a bamboo, rather, it is an evergreen shrub. ALL parts are poisonous and it decomposes to produce hydrogen cyanide. Even so, it is not toxic to humans. It IS considered an invasive. This one just happens to already be in a happy spot next to my house and hasn't grown huge or otherwise obnoxious. The berries contain Nantenine, which is currently being researched as an antidote to MDMA. That would be nice.
